Who Naturely is for
Naturely is designed for young children to use with a parent or guardian. A grown-up creates the account and gives consent before a child uses the app.
The short version
- A grown-up creates the account — we collect the parent's email.
- A child can be given an optional display name that the creatures use.
- Children can photograph a creature to identify it, and chat with an AI creature by voice or text.
- We do not store children's photos. A photo is processed on the device, sent once to identify the creature, then discarded — never saved to our servers.
- We keep a history of conversations and quiz progress so a child can pick up where they left off. A parent can delete all of it at any time.
- No advertising. No third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We never sell personal information.
Information we collect
| Data | Why | Stored by us? |
|---|---|---|
| Parent email address | Create and secure the account, restore purchases | Yes |
| Child display name (optional) | So creatures can greet the child warmly | Yes — deletable |
| Conversation & quiz history | Show recent chats, discoveries, and rewards | Yes — deletable |
| Photo taken for identification | Recognize the creature in the picture | No — processed transiently, never saved |
| Voice audio during a live chat | Power real-time speech in the conversation | No — streamed live, not stored as audio |
| Purchase / subscription status | Unlock premium features and restore purchases | Managed by Apple / RevenueCat |
| Basic usage counters (voice minutes, IDs used) | Apply free/premium and parental time limits | Yes — deletable |
We do not collect precise location, contacts, browsing history, or advertising identifiers, and we never knowingly collect more personal information from a child than an activity needs.
How photos and voice are handled
Photos. When a child takes or chooses a photo to identify a creature, the image is processed on the device and sent once to our identification provider (Google — Gemini vision) to classify the creature. We do not store the photo on Naturely’s servers.
Voice chat.During a live conversation, audio is streamed in real time through our voice provider (LiveKit) and processed by speech-to-text (Deepgram), a language model for the creature’s replies (OpenAI), and a text-to-speech voice (ElevenLabs). We keep a text transcript so a child can revisit recent chats; a parent can delete it.
Safety.Children’s messages are screened by automated moderation before and after the AI responds, to keep conversations kind and age-appropriate. If a child expresses distress, the app can surface a gentle prompt and flag it for a parent to review.
Service providers
We share the minimum data needed with vetted providers who process it on our behalf under contract; they may not use it for their own purposes:
- Amazon Web Services (Amplify, Cognito, DynamoDB, Lambda) — Accounts, data storage, backend
- Google (Gemini API) — Creature photo identification
- OpenAI — AI creature replies and content moderation
- Deepgram — Speech-to-text during voice chat
- ElevenLabs — The creature's spoken voice
- LiveKit — Real-time audio transport for voice chat
- RevenueCat + Apple — Subscription purchases and restoration
Parental consent and controls
A parent confirms consent during onboarding before data collection begins. Parents can review a child’s activity, set a daily voice-time limit, manage notifications, and delete all data from the in-app Parent Zone and Accountscreens. Purchases and other sensitive actions sit behind an “ask a grown-up” gate.
Your choices and rights
Access & delete. A parent can delete the account and all associated data in-app (Account → Delete account), which removes the child’s stored data from our systems.
Contact. Email hello@naturely.app for any privacy request.
Data retention & security
We keep account and activity data until you delete it or close the account. We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), owner-scoped access so a family can only reach its own data, and least-privilege backend permissions.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes here and update the effective date above.
